KENT MEMORIAL LUTHERAN CHURCH Congregational Annual Meeting February 17, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 12:20 pm by President Jennifer Bolton. There were 58 voting members present which constituted a quorum. Pastor Beese led opening devotions from the front of the annual report.
A motion was made by Ken Mueller and seconded by Karen Pragman to accept the minutes of the Nov 11, 2007 meeting as printed. Motion carried.
Past President, Ken Mueller, thanked the congregation for allowing him to serve as president the past two years.
Pastor Beese spoke about the need for additional people to participate in the Easter pageant and the possibility of forming a committee to coordinate this event rather than individuals, Michael and Toni Wagner, who have been doing it themselves. Also, he mentioned the Central States Assembly of the ELCA which will meet in June. He asked anyone that is interested in attending this convention to talk to him. Pastor Dave also mentioned that it has been his pleasure to serve Kent his first year.
During the review of the General Fund Treasurer’s report, Ken Mueller pointed out that at the end of 2007, the income was coming up considerably short of budget. He reminded all to send or bring in general fund contributions, even when out of town, to keep the congregation everyday operating funds sufficient. A motion was made by Harvey Lembke and seconded by Don Cline to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ken Mueller and seconded by Pat Poretta to accept the Building Fund Report as presented. Motion carried.
Committee reports were available for review in the Annual Report. Committee heads were each given an opportunity to speak about their committees and what they do to the congregation. The Property Committee wished to thank Pastor Beese and Nancy for replacing the old garage door on the parsonage at their expense. Also, the Property Committee has prepared a form to be used to alert them of items that need attention. Any congregation member that notices something that needs attention of the Property Committee should fill out that form, found in the office in the Property slot, and return the completed form to that slot in the office. This will be a more efficient manner to get items attended to.
A motion was made by Ken Mueller and seconded by Audrey Halvorson to accept Phillip Keeney as a member of the Minister Fund. Motion carried.
A Thank you is extended to Don Brohm, who continues his duties as Kent Webmaster, even though he has moved to Iowa. The congregation extended a round of applause for Pastor Dave and Nancy for their first year of service and also Pat Dau in the office.
A motion was made by Charles Niemann and seconded by Don Kline to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 1:15 pm with the Lord’s Prayer. Pastor Dave encouraged all to expand our Kent circle by inviting neighbors, friends and family to come worship with us at Kent.
Respectfully submitted Deanne DeJarnette Acting Recording Secretary
